What is Occupational Therapy?

a behavioral healthcare profession that helps you navigate your life

Occupational therapy (OT) is about understanding how we occupy our time and engage in daily activities or tasks. Whether going for a run, grocery shopping, or paying attention in class, every action we do significantly impacts our health, function, and overall well-being, ultimately shaping our lifestyle.

An occupational therapist helps you identify your strengths and develop the skills needed to overcome challenges, empowering you to build a meaningful life that aligns with your values and goals. By working with an occupational therapist, you gain the tools to navigate your life’s specific situations with greater ease and intention.

Life skills aren’t always taught in school, and it’s common to feel that essential lessons haven’t fully “clicked.” Occupational therapy helps bridge that gap by offering personalized, action-oriented support focused on function.

What to Expect

Great! You booked your first session, now what?

    • After completing a 15-minute consultation, a thorough intake assessment and evaluation will be conducted in your first, 50-minute session. This is to ensure that your goals, values, and strengths are discussed in order to steer which direction your individualized plan is going to go.

    • Sessions typically include open conversations about your life experiences, actions, behaviors, thoughts, and emotional states. Active engagement in tasks is also likely to occur.

    • As your therapist, I will offer guidance, support, and evidence-based techniques to help you navigate challenges and achieve your goals.

    • Sessions are designed to be confidential. Your privacy is top priority by ethical and legal standards. Exceptions may apply if statements or expressions of harm or legal requirements prompt reporting (this will be discussed in further detail at the beginning of your initial session).

    • Depending on how often you’d like to meet, you can establish a weekly, recurring time slot or simply book sessions as you go. Rebooking as you go will be self-determined.

    • Book again here.

    • I understand that life happens, and some things are just out of our control or foresight.
