Middle School High School College
As a former college track and field athlete and college athletics employee, I understand the demands and complexities of the student-athlete lifestyle. This lifestyle requires resiliency, strategic planning, and targeted support that goes beyond general advice to navigate the constant balancing act of academics, training, and personal life. Athletics add unique pressures, all of which require energy and focus that can impact schoolwork, mental well-being, and social life. Student-athletes may also face performance-related stress, expectations from coaches and family, and the constant push to improve for the next level—whether that’s competing in high school, earning a college scholarship, or preparing for recruitment.
The demands of a student-athlete lifestyle are further intensified for those who learn differently, benefit from extra academic support, or feel more successful on the field than off.
Middle and high school student-athletes are asked to juggle the demands of academics, sports, social activities, and personal development, which can feel overwhelming and cause burnout. At this age, they’re still developing crucial skills in time management, organization, and self-discipline, making it challenging to balance their commitments and self-regulation effectively. Support in managing the student-athlete lifestyle can help them build healthy habits, improve self-confidence, and learn to prioritize and organize their time. With guidance, they can develop strategies for balancing schoolwork and sports, setting realistic goals, and learning how to handle stress—all of which are essential for thriving in both academics and athletics at any level. College athletes face even greater challenges with new academic, athletic, and entrepreneurial demands that require strong self-management, motivation, and resiliency skills. All while trying to incorporate a social life, self-exploration, and career transitions.
In my practice, we’ll work together to streamline your schedule, optimize focus, and manage the unique stresses of the athletic lifestyle by working on strategies that help you stay organized, build resiliency, and set you up for success to thrive at every level, both on and off the field.
